Modifying Users
Overview
Use Administration > Users to open a user’s details and edit the information you are permitted to manage. Administrators and moderators can manage site users; the Site User Manager role delegates routine user administration without changing someone’s primary site role.
Some information belongs to the user’s QReserve account, while other information applies only to your site. This distinction determines what you can edit.
Modifying User Display Name and Email Address
A display name and email address identify the same account across QReserve sites. To edit another user’s display name, you need user-management authority in every site they belong to. This can come from administrator or moderator access, or delegated user-management permissions. Additional protections apply to administrator and moderator accounts.
Changing another user’s email address also requires that they have never signed in. If they hold secondary roles directly or through a User Group, you need administrator or moderator authority in the sites where those roles are held. Editing a portal administrator’s email also requires administrator authority in their portals.
If you do not meet these requirements, the relevant account fields are unavailable for editing. This prevents a manager at one site from changing an identity used at other sites. Users can manage their own profile; see Changing My Email Address for the email-change process.
Modifying Site-Specific User Information
Site User Manager allows routine changes to information held within your site, including notes, custom user properties, account numbers, billing addresses, and other users’ membership in existing groups. A user’s membership at another site does not by itself prevent these site-specific edits.
Role and group changes have additional limits:
- Primary roles: Site User Manager does not allow changing User, Moderator, or Administrator status.
- Secondary roles: add Site User Permission Editor to let a delegated manager edit roles and restrictions for other individual users. They cannot edit their own roles.
- User Groups: adding someone to a group that grants roles also requires Site User Permission Editor, or moderator/administrator authority. Delegated managers cannot change their own memberships or edit group definitions and group roles.
Assign Site User Manager and its dependent roles to the same user or User Group. See User Roles and Permissions for dependencies, scope, and examples.
